Consultation on Capacitybuilders’ work to engage local authorities and other public agencies:
Background Information.
Capacitybuilders is initiating strategic discussions with IDeA and LGA, along with key Third Sector partners and Government Departments such as DEFRA, DCLG, OTS. The purpose of this would be to shape a cross-sector strategy around capacity-building the local Third Sector in the light of the new environment created by the Local Government White Paper.
Capacitybuilders and Third Sector partners will then be in a good position to influence both the standards by which local authorities relations with the Third Sector will be assessed, and also future policy on commissioning and procurement of VCS/Third Sector services.
Capacitybuilders will use this strategic forum to steer a number of priority issues such as representation and voice for the sector in local planning processes.
Capacitybuilders’ strategic objectives for work with local authorities and the local VCS/Third Sector are to:
- Improve communication and capacity-building partnerships
- Demonstrate the benefits of capacity-building to local authorities and other public agencies in order to improve chances of sustainable funding for local Third Sector infrastructure
- Support Third Sector voice in local planning processes, and Local Area Agreements
- Ensure local authorities’ voice is heard in improving quality and reach of local Third Sector infrastructure
